Important announcement: Post quake Christchurch water

I just saw on the news that the city will be adding chlorine to the water supply. This may or may not affect your area but it would be wise to have some dechlorinators on hand (e.g. API Stress Coat or Seachem Prime) just in case. Most pet shops are still operating and should have these products in stock.

I didn't know Chch was the only city in New Zealand that doesn't add chlorine.

I read the water supply was expected to be chlorinated for a number of months...

All of Central Canterbury's water is sourced from underground aquifers - the same stuff NZer's (including Canterbury folk  ) buy in the bottles. Funnily enough, Christchurch cannot receive the highest water quality rating because no chemicals are added! The water is extremely pure, apart from the ever increasing amount of nitrates from the ever increasing number of dairy farms. :an!gry
