Have just got back, it's one of the nicest markets I have been to. Lots of baked goods, interesting craft stalls, home grown veges, cushions, block prints on fabric and paper (cheap). Inside the hall are quite a few jewellery stalls with crystals, handmade ceramic beads handmade sewn with buttons and great colours, resin pendants -3 tables. Some are very affordable, $10 a pair of earrings, $35 for a pendant necklace, up to over $100 for the handmade glass. I took $25, spent most of that on food, went away to get some money for a pendant. It's open till 2pm and the next market is not till May.

It's in Erson Ave which is off Mt Albert Rd, opposite the Mall entrance to Pak n Save.

And no I have no affiliations with the place, it was just a most pleasant surprise, after some markets I feel harassed and desperate to get away.

:bounce:

I have found the Avondale markets on Sunday mornings better than the Otara Markets.

more places selling fresh vegies at Avondale. Otara

seems to be more craft type things.

the night markets at Pakuranga on Saturday 6pm to midnight are interesting, lots of asian food to buy, so if you are hungry its great. must go see at least once. I went last weekend.

Yet to see the Royal Oak one.

Can't beat the Parnell Farmer's Market, still my favourite. Mostly food and produce but good place for brekkie. Best way to describe it's location is the old blind foundation building below auckland museum. It's such a word of mouth place because nobody really knows how to describe where it is haha..

Just got back from Pakuranga Night Market. Interesting place, more ethnic homemade/carpark-made food stalls than I think anyone could eat from in one night.

Lots of bling and stuff for kids and teenagers to spend money on, fruit and veges at decent prices, a few clothing stalls, some second hand stuff and other random stuff like soap, doggie clothing, and lavendar products mixed in. Little or no homemade craft on offer. Womens and men's jackets were $30 each or 2 for $50, modern fashion stuff and lots to choose from. Great place for pickpockets and 5 finger discount, so hang on to your bag and keep your kids on a leash haha! It was very busy but at 7pm everyone was still well behaved and going about their business. Not as big as I expected but lots to see anyway. I will go back with some money and an empty stomach next time.

Went back tonight for dinner .... the start of many.

For $21 total we shared 6 malaysian satay chicken skewers, husband had chinese beef curry on rice noodles, I had chicken curry on rice noodles, and we shared 3 japanese pancakes for pudding. Definitely recommend the malaysian satay - it's a middle aged couple and they sell only those. The husband cooks the skewers and they marinate in the warm sauce before the wife serves them with a dollop of sauce. The chinese stall we went to was the one in the middle where there is 50 or so year old man doing the cooking and young people serving, they are right in the middle of the food stalls. He cooked each batch of noodles seperately in hot water, then put a ladle of chicken broth on, then the curry sauce. We both thought the broth would water down the curry but it didn't, it was very good. Beef was better than the chicken, nice and tender and quite a few pieces, had dried orange and 5 spice flavour.
