fishgirl53
Hi I have just bought 8 piecies of mushroom coral that has been in a display cabinet for several years what do I need to do to it to be able to put it into a cichlid tank thank you Joy
ryanjury
Chuck it in Just make sure it hasn't been around anything harmful - fly spray ant killer or anything like that if you were really hard out you could boil it.
phoenix44
That coral can be horrendously sharp, so be careful. If a fish rubs against it, it could easily take an eye out.
fishgirl53
Thank you can it be rounded off with a file at all sorry if the question is stupid or maybe I could bury it a little
ryanjury
You could round it off it is not something I have ever considered but it could be an issue so better to be safe than sorry.
phoenix44
It is a round coral. The fragments themselves are like the edge of a serrated knife, so rounding them off won't really be a long term solution. If you have an African tank, you might want to put them in the filter or sump.

ryanjury
I have never used that coral in tanks but I have seen it in plenty of peoples tanks with no issues, as Phoenix has said there maybe sharp edges so run a finger around and have a look first. On another note did you find a tank that suited locally?
