The state of your local

Mine is pretty poor with high levels of runnoff etc:

Bit there is work being done to improve it:

What is the state of your local, and how far do you have to travel for a good stream?

About that, sampling period is from 2006 to now (I think).

It gives a picture of what the over all stream health is, but year on year graphs would be good. Some where on the Environment Waikato site there is a PDF of sample data, but that is even harder to understand :(

I could walk down and grab a pic for you but you can barely see the bottom from all the silt :(

Our local would be on the farm and unfortunately it's as you'd expect, lot's of runoff and effluent, I'm not proud of that aspect of my chosen profession and hope to help change things one day.

We're now back up North Stella, only a few minutes drive from where the mudfish are/were (near the airport) but unfortunately there has been a bush fire over that entire area, I hope this hasn't affected the mudfish population considerably....

Carlos, apparently they survive the fires surprisingly well. Was it last summer there was a nasty fire through there? There was also a drought and apparently the numbers are fine.

I listened to this a few days ago:

Mostly about black mudfish and restoration, but also mentions the northern ones and fire. Nick Ling is The mudfish guy at Waikato Uni, very interesting chap.
