antwan
I just noticed that one of my female threadfins now looks fine, but she used to have a really badly bent back (was fine when I bought her, don't know what happened). I've been feeding a heap of mosquito larvae if that could be what did it?
Jennifer
Yup. Quality food can often correct bent spine that was caused by nutrient deficiencies. I know bloodworm is also sometimes helpful in correcting the condition.
antwan
That's pretty cool, I was just feeding them colourbits before, I thought that would have been a pretty well-rounded diet?
Jennifer
I've said it before...can we really be sure that an all in one diet best simulates what they would get in the wild? Can we recognise the myriad of conditions that could be related to nutrient deficiency? My educated guess is no, which is why I feed a large variety to all of my pets, but that is just my humble opinion.

Adrienne
Yes, I'm going to feed my fish every live insect that I can get my hands on - partly because thats what they get in the wild and partly because it costs me a fortune to feed the hundreds of fish I currently have
Trilobite
Thats pretty interesting. My fighters love moths and aphids I think I'll start feeding them more frequently

Trilobite
Yeah and the black ones. I havent really been using them as a food regular source, just as a rare treat if one lands on me.
bdspider
I can give you a white worm culture if you want Trilio. They are good for freaking people out, a mass of seething little worms.
supasi
I was given 3 or 4 Furcatus Rainbows from HFF a few years back as they had bent spines( I was buying some anyway and was asked if I wanted the deformed ones as they were going to be fed to the oscar). They looked real ugly but I thought what the hell, I will take them for my planted tank. I fed them up on lots of live foods and within two months they became unbent. Infact I couldnt tell the difference from the healthy ones. I agree, I do not feed my fish only flake/crumble. I will feed fresh live food whenever possible and frozen if fresh is not available. Trilobite
Thanks bdspider that would be much appreciated . I could carry them in a jar round my neck for a casual daytime effect. :nilly: I just realised that Furcatus Rainbows are infact the fish I was going to buy ages ago to add to my "school" of 3 but decided against it due to their bent spines...if only I knew there was a simple cure. antwan
There's a guy in our local club that's breeding a few of the furcata's, you might be able to get your school soon.
