Joutei
Hey guys My mum currently has a 38lt cold water hexagonal shaped tank. She has two goldfish in there already and she wants to put 3 more, but i think that they would cramp the goldfish and make them stressed? Any insight? Cheers
SamH
Too small for two goldies, let alone 5!

Joutei
is it because those two goldfish will outgrow the tank? Cheers
SamH
Yes, and even right now they are likely producing far too much waste. Unless she does daily water changes?
Joutei
the tank has a filter aswell?
Caryl
Are these short tailed comets? Goldfish are really unsuited to hexagonal tanks, comets especially as they need length to swim about in. Even with a filter those fish will produce a lot of waste. It may be coping at the moment but if she adds more there will be deaths.
Joutei
im pretty positive they are comets, i tried telling her , but she thinks im over reacting , she blabs on about how her friends have lots in a small tank without a filter. I refuse buying any fish for my mum lol, i guess she will have to learn herself. R.I.P for any other fish that may enter that tank.

Sophia
As a child I had 2 goldfish called Bit and Bot (don't ask why, I don't remember) and they lived for about 2 years in a big glass jar of maybe 8 litres or so and part of the irregular cleaning regime included taking everything out, cleaning it all (including rinsing the gravel), and putting it all back in. No filter, maybe a bit of oxygen weed, but overall a sparse existence. I vaguely remember using water conditioner. With what I know now about fishkeeping I think it's a miracle those fish survived. I think I had about 4 over the course of my childhood. They died that death of floating on their side or bottom all curled over.
