L shaped tank

Hi everyone

Cees is not approving replies in the Member's Tank sections and I can see why - it will be much nicer if it just consists of photos.

But I am keen on seeing the replies because I want the feedback. Can I ask if you would put any replies here ............ and if those who have already replied are willing, perhaps they would repeat it here.

Thanks

Jude

The tank is looking good Jude but I think it might help if you were also able to post pics of each 'angle' separately. It looks a little bare in the middle at the bend but I suspect it is the camera angle making it look that way and not so in actuality.

I would like to know more about those lights. Brand, where you got them, price etc if possible. They are really neat and low units and look very unobtrusive.

Jude, that looks really great, you did a wonderful job and it can only get better with time.

Caryl, the lights are sourced from Petware and can be purchased either in single or double units. They go up to a 6ft model although the bulbs are only 4ft. Bulbs included but not sure how good they are. If you want a price PM me.

Thanks everyone

I agree it does look bare in the corner Caryl. Its almost impossible to photograph that bit and its also very difficult to see into the back corner - its almost like an optical illusion, the fish appear to swim right 'off the screen' and then reappear somewhere else. I have two pieces of driftwood there to hide the paraphenalia and an amazon sword between them, towards the back of the corner. I am hoping that it will help show up the corner as it grows bigger - the green will be easier to see than the black background.

The lights are Ocean Free brand. These ones are called the super classical light set - 120cm. Each light contains 2 flourescent bulbs - 30w.

Thats all the info I can find on the box, I suspect I might need more lighting later but it seems fine now.

I will also try to post separate pictures of the angles and some closeups. I tried today but there were too many reflections on the glass so I might try again tonight.

I used a tripod but the photos still looked blurry, I am wondering if its the effect of the glass ......... but I'll keep trying.

Cheers again

Sheeshh, two replies and I still managed to forget some of the answers. I got the lights from Twiglands - a garden centre locally. Price on box was $130 but I got them for $89 each - on special and with a 10% discount. I've seen the same brand at animates.

Thanks Jude. When you photograph the tank, try putting both strip lights onto the one 'angle' as you photograph it. The more light the better. Take it at night and try with the room lights off. No reflections.

I will bring my camera with me on the 15th too.

I remember you told me about the L-shaped tank, Jude. Absolutely love it, next time I'm out your way (that is once a month :D ) I would love to pop around to have a personal look at it. The planting of the tank is inspiring, it has given me some ideas for my own tank which I'll have to set up shortly
