Yep thats why the bidding only started at $100

Probably best to mention in the auction that it is not safe to fill, I probably wouldn't want it on my conscience if someone was to fill it and have it burst in their lounge and have a heap of people injured or just their lounge flooded, it is a shame that people build tanks like this sometimes it would be wicked to fill up!

well you could get extra bracing done on it that make it safe to use , cos not many tanks are 3ft high and it could be a greats centre piece for a room

Unless you were willing/able to stick a brace right down the middle of the tank (ie divide the tank in half) then you would not be able to brace it any way to make it safe. I agree it would be an awesome display but unfortunately not safe to completely fill up in 12mm glass :(

OMG!!! I just got1 made this size weeks ago!!

Yes i have the same problem with brace element of this size of tank..Iam still try to figure out how to brace it up down here..

bracing this tank is pretty head scratching, when i fill the thing right up the both top side and middle can handle it, but in between the middle and side its will bow..

my are made out of 10mm laminate glass,

right now my tank are only half filled, i am going to try to brace it up 2morrow with more glass..

Ryanjury is right to get it well brace you have to brace a glass right in the middle of the tank, but that would be the las option, i was going to put a brace in 3/4 of the tank, any 1 had any sugguestion guy?

isn't it bad to use laminated glass because the acid cure silicone eats away the laminate?????

it's not an issue to build a tank of those dimensions if you use the correct thickness of glass, i'm sure there must have been tanks made this size that were safe. 16mm glass or thicker will do just fine with a central brace.

yep that the things withh size of glass, people advise even glazier told me it ok with 10mm laminate, twice as tough as 10mm standard..

Yeah you can make tanks that big but the glass has to be thick enough, I had some tall tanks that had 15mm thick glass. The calcs are there for a reason and glass is very unforgiving when it does go.

I believe barrie said something about laminated glass being bad news in tanks as well, something about it being as weak as the thinnest piece of glass used.

you guys are scaring the crap out of me. Is it the length or the height that's the problem? I've got 10mm glass that's 1520 long and 630 high on the front and back. The calc says it's safe but now I'm not sure... I'm hoping it's the length that's the killer.

Oh, but I've just noticed the tank in question is 900 not 600 high, it's the one in the link that was 600 high but 2.4 long that went...
