Caryl
Most people seem, from what I have seen, to breed according to colour, rather than species. I imagine most here are either Xiphophorus helleri or X maculatus. There are a number of variations within these two depending on colour and fins. reba_nz
Hi my name is Rebecca and This is my first post. I have two rather large platy females and obviously one male. The person i got the females from said they were pregnant. I have guppies and so have seen them have fry and know what they look like before they drop. But this is my first time with plattys. These girls are rich orange. So no dark spots (gavid spots). They are rather large fish anyway, but quite fat. My question is, what is the best way to tell if they are pregnant? How long is gestation? I've read that its 30 - 40 days on another post 28-30 days. Help? Rebecca

Caryl
They are probably pregnant and can drop fry every 4 - 6 weeks.
