Jennifer
I have a question for Geo Keepers. If they spawn, I hear they can get quite aggressive/territorial/defensive. How aggressive do they get? If I introduce a BGK, it will almost certainly eat the eggs/fry and for this reason the geo's will almost certainly attack the BGK, unless it is super ninja. I suspect a youngish BGK would be quite delicate and I wouldn't want it to get injured. So what are they like as parents? Will they attack and kill, or just chase around the tank? I used to breed heaps of different Geos. It depends on the type you are planning to get. Some are peaceful and some are territorial. Some mouth brood and care for the offspring and some lay eggs on surfaces and eat their eggs, like rams. :-?
DennisP
Most likely Altifrons.
Jennifer
They are quite full on and I have found that they do better in a species specific tank when breeding. Also, that white sand was biotope correct...but perhaps you were not trying to achieve that effect. Besides, who cares about biotope if you don't like it? phoenix44
get those puffy head acaras that DavidR had at one point. Not sure if he still has them but I think they were called "threadfin acaras" on the lists. They were awesome.
DennisP
Google searched them. I see no puffy headness.

DennisP
Quite cool indeed. I think I'll stick with my stock list of: 3 x G. Altifrons (until they get bigger atleast) 2 x Firemouths (Pref Pair) 1 x Black/Brown GhostKnife (Or other oddball) 1 x Royal Pleco (Which I still need to locate)
DennisP
what is that evil looking devil fish lurking in the shadows... I didn't even see that. phoenix44
Any fish shop can get you a Royal. You won't know the type of Royal until you get it, and its been a while since I ordered one in so I don't know what it will be either. Last time I got one, it was a dull eye and I was stoked! DennisP
Explain more please. Dull eye royal?! Sounds like a disease. I'm new to fancy plecs.
phoenix44
Ah yes.... Panaque is a large genus that includes the Royals. There are a few different types of Royal plecos as well  Have a look through here - http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/ge ... _id=27#337 The Dull Eye is L191 and one of my favourites, and is more likely to be sold as "royal pleco" here. Some royals become absolute monsters

DennisP
No clue. The caption in images says l27
phoenix44
LOL  This is possibly the best part about royals. PC will list about 6-7 L027s. Then they start on the L027As and Bs and Cs
greatmoojin
Looks like Panaque Nigrolineatus L190, if you're after the red eye on stripey pyjama look avoid the L191 - as the common name suggests they have a dull coloured eye. Mind you I have a 10cm L191 called Mr Jim Jams, and he's by far and wide my favourite pleco. He lives on silica sand and digs tunnels all over the place, so great you've got a sandy bottom - it really helps to bring out natural behaviour in the plecos and especially the geos. I love watching my fish chewing through the sand and filtering it out of their gills - looks kinda like they're smoking! Great work on the aquascape BTW, looks fantastic

All I'm really after is one with stripes that looks like that previously posted. Eye colour doesn't really concern me. (Also I like the way its sorta short and fat) @P44, This is why I ask for other people's advice.
Mad Whip
Do any of those fancy plecs come is dwarf size? I did see a Moth cat fish a few weeks back that I liked it reminded me of a Banjo catfish. You know it's there but hardly ever see it. phoenix44
Yep. heaps come in dwarf size. L002 for example. Others would be L270, L066, L046  and many more.

Hmmm, are they readily available in NZ? can order them through the LFS? the L046 looks like a bit of me. edit: and if ordering would you order a 'dwarf L046' or is the L046 the dwarf model?
