phoenix44
It is pointless. And unless you can regulate the chemical reaction in the first place, no you cannot just put it on a timer.
SamH
It is pointless. And unless you can regulate the chemical reaction in the first place, no you cannot just put it on a timer. That is true, BUT you can put a valve on a timer. Two lines, one to aquarium and one outside of the tank. On would mean the CO2 is being fed into the tank and the outside line is shut. Off would mean the outside line is on and the line to the aquarium is shut. With all of this, you may as well go pressurized though

Just getting a 3 way gang valve can work too if you don't mind doing it manually

SamH
the Co2 is better off going into the tank at night. Exactly. But sometimes it can OD and kill the fish, that's why I only keep a Betta in my CO2 tank.

phoenix44
lol. you need a 3L juice bottle, tubing, sugar and yeast. don't put any of that tomato rubbish in there. 2cups of sugar, 2teaspoons of yeast. Fill with warm water upto the point where the bottle starts its conical shape. Look up on here and search for a cazillion DIY CO2 threads. You should be well on your way. Joe
don't put any of that tomato rubbish in there. Jennifer told me about tomato sauce, and she said it makes the mixture more efficient by giving the yeast more nutrients, and she uses it in her bottles. Do you have a problem with it? phoenix44
I personally don't use it Joe. Doesn't mean I have a problem with it; it just means I don't use it and it is not a vital component of the sugar - yeast reaction. Once people get the sugar-yeast mixture right they can experiment with all this other stuff, but initially I think the simple way is best. phoenix44
Its a 250L tank yes? ODing it is the LAST of your problems. Most if not all will say that one DIY CO2 unit will have almost no effect on a tank that size.
