firefish
I've noticed a really long, cord like leaf on my val. Today i looked at the end and wondered if it could be a bud that will flower, Should it be emersed or submersed if it is a bud & might flower? Zev
Unfortunately the flowers aren't that spectacular - well, mine weren't anyway. I have a pic of them somewhere...
firefish
if it flowers, will it be under water?
Zev
The stalks are quite weak and usually just sit around on the surface.
alanmin4304
Val is like Sag and has male and female flowers so you would need both to get viable seeds. Val usually has 3 flowers/stem and Sag 1.

As far as I am aware, only male Val is in the country. The only way it will reproduce is vegetative reproduction. I may be wrong but that what I was told by the local Regional Council Plant Pest guy. alanmin4304
I was told only females, then that there is evidence of them being hybridized, which can only happen with cross polination. This was their reason for banning all straight Val. A picture of the flowers would be good. You pays your money and takes your pick
