mcrudd
i just spoke to Hollywood fish farm and it looks as if my zebra pleco L46 dream is shattered. I will just make the best of what I have now. Hubby said there is no way we can fit another tank in our house let alone buy it. And he is not going to allow me to get rid of my Bristlenoses and chocolate zebra's L270. He was not so worried about getting rid of the swords but when i mentioned the other two he put his foot down and said No Hopefully one day if I am lucky enough to get them we will be able to get that second tank, until then I hope some one else can get those beautiful fish and enjoy them as much as I wanted too
phoenix44
But he would be ok with you adding L46 to the tank you have at the moment? I don't see why you can't sell the L270 and get the L46 instead... keep the BN's they are fine with hypans. you need to make him see the advantages ..
smidey
not cool. who has shattered the chance, HFF or hubby?

I understand, just a bit down right now. not cool. who has shattered the chance, HFF or hubby? Both really, but Hff was just being honest. Zebra's are very shy and would lose a fight against a chocolate and would never come out to eat with my current set up. They basically need their own tank just them in it, with maybe some peacefull schools that does not eat the same as them.

I was going to get a farmers card LOL They have been hounding us to open an account offering us some nice credit to start with. We did previously have an account with them but quickly paid it off while saving for our house which we bought in September. So maybe one of you out there can use my idea of buying them and get yourselfs some. hopefully when some are available here i a few years you will be able to get some I hope so too. Well I better get off here and walk to fetch my kids from school

Well if you want to sway his decision on the $120 choco zebras, you can inform him that people were recently willing to pay almost $300 for 2 on TradeMe;)

smidey
We merely pointed out a few considerations to think about... At the end of the day they are expensive fish and there is a bit of a grey area when it comes to "should be" and "will be" ... IT IS ONE OF THE PERILS OF SELLING FISH The choice is always with the customer If it was MY personal tank I would be doing my utmost to eliminate any "could go wrongs" this is a very sensible attitude, good work. it would be a terrible situation if said top $ fish got wasted by another shortly after being rehomed. firenzenz
this is a very sensible attitude, good work. it would be a terrible situation if said top $ fish got wasted by another shortly after being rehomed. The unfortunate thing is that if you got more than one of the Zebs then the main threat to them could be each other. I have seen a Zeb happy in a community situation with a wide array of tankmates including other plecos with no real issues. It had earned it's way into that set up because of what it had done to others of its species in a species only tank. Suffice to say they won't be hovering under one rock as they are doing now at HFF when they get a bit bigger.

I agree with it, and after some thinking and speaking to my hubby we came to the agreement, that unless we can somehow get a seperate tank for them, I will not be getting them. I am like I said above sad about the decision, but there is no other way. But thanks so much for all your understanding and time you gave me in helping me with information I very much needed. You guys are the best

mcrudd
if u can afford some zebs then whats a few hundy more for a nice new tank LOL wish it was that easy. Its not just a tank, its the filter, heater, wood, ornament, substrate and the list goes on. Hubby said I must just wait and be patient, so let me try and do that and see what happens. BikBok
oh , sorry to hear your dream is crushed. But maybe better in the long run. That might be hard to hear right now but it did sound like you needed to sort a few issues out in your current tank and those L46 are mighty expensive fish to learn with! Not even I would be game , even if I had the $$. Though I would like some one day! I can understand how pricey it would cost to set up another whole tank just for them,... there's several hundred dollars right there! But keep that dream in mind for the future - I am! Hopefully the price on zebras will go down in future years if anyone can get a hold of breeding pairs. We're going into HFF this weekend (to get a rainbow shark) so i will once again drool by the zebra tank! .. and then go home and will my chocolate zebra to change it's stripes haha. I got him from a breeder so haven't seen the HFF choc zebras yet but will have a nosey. My choccie is coming along nicely by the way, has really darkened up and comes out in the evenings for us to see him.. just can't photograph him as he's scared of the camera. Everyone is getting along nicely so hopefully the rainbow shark won't upset things, I will get the smallest i can find and he's the last addition to the tank .. as advised! BikBok the more the day goes on the more I realise that it was meant to be that I don't get them. Listening to others I realise that I am not yet ready for them, I am after all just a beginner in the hobby. What I might do is get one more chocolate zebra once I see what sex these are. I am also going to give my swordtails to whoever would like them and get myself three more ghost catfish and aquire more small little schools. Its all good now Goodluck on getting your sharky, they are so cute, but once again my tank is too small LOL. Oooh so good to hear about your little choccie again. Mine has also gone very dark and even come out during the day now. I am wishing mine will get used to the camera too, as soon as they see it they make a bee line for the log or bridge, guess we are in the same little boat there, let me know how your luck goes there. BikBok
Hi melanie your tank is about the same size as my community tank. I have an aqua one AR850. I was advised that a rainbow shark would be fine in this tank with lots of hidey places , which i have got. But i have to reconsider whether he will be too zippy for the choc zebra. Might buy him on a trial basis .. and if he deosn't work out , will resell him. But really hoping he wil work out as I think they are cool! Well my choc zebra has ICH :-( .Poor little guy, the move must have been too much for him. So now I have the fun job of trying to catch him this afternoon and put him into the quarantine tank. I know where his hiding spots are but it's still going to be fun!!! He has started coming out more too, in the evenings around feeding time he comes out and hangs around. mcrudd
Hi BikBok Aww Poor baby Well think of it atleast while he is in quarantine you will see more of his cuteness I hope the little guy feels better soon. Mine are becoming quite active, my one seems to fancy my bristlenose female LOL He hangs out where ever she is and when she does the cleaning at night he even follows her around. My big bristlenose boy is not too fond of their relationship. He chases him off, Probably saying stay away buddy, I had her for seven months she is mine
