Adrienne
Has anyone used or is anyone using one of these TM Listing #: 290879252. I thought I had already read somewhere on a forum about them but can't find it on here. If you are using or have used one, how do you find it? In your opinion is it worth it. ryanjury
You could fill it with really fine media to polish the water.. It would be alot easier to clean out than pulling down an entire FX5

It would be alot easier to clean out than pulling down an entire FX5 Nah, cleaning out an fx5 is a doddle, i mean, even in a well stocked tank, it doesnt take that long to unplug it, pull the baskets out and give everything a quick wash once per month. thats how often i did mine, and then id do a really thorough clean (pipes, impellor etc..) quarterly. phoenix44
do you only need the pre filter to remove the mistiness / small particles cause of the 'new tank'? If so just use the conical end of a bottle with the bottle neck as the bit that sits infront of the filter pipe intake. stuff it with filter wool and that should clear your water. ryanjury
Cleaning my FX5 is a pain in the bum, it takes a good hour after I drain it, manage to get it out from under the tank pull it out and then rinse all the media several times in buckets of water from the tank.. I choose not to have mine polishing the water so don't have super fine media or polishing pads in it which clog up and reduce flow and make it need cleaning more often. The standard media in an FX5 is quite coarse so doesn't remove all the tiny particles in a tank. If I did want to polish the water in my tank I would use something like adodge was suggesting, well actually I would make my own like Phoenix said because I am a cheap ass

But yeah, powerhead was great, adds good circulation too. I have mine going for $60 at the moment, almost new if anyone is interested. alanmin4304
Years ago I used to have a number of diatomaceous earth reverse flow filters that were very good at polishing but I have not seen them or the fine media around for quite a while. spoon
i use a cartrigde type pool filter a pre filter(intex type A) the pump on its bung so its connected inline before my aquis2200 i rinse the filter when i do water changes used two irragation taps so i dont have to worry about water syphoning out when i open it. i replace the filter cartidge completely about every two months they only cost $7.95. looks like this http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=h ... s%3Disch:1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31TG%2BK8VN6L.jpg i also use a 1300lph powerhead in the tank to help the canister filter pressure .the cannister filter is filled with only biological media and has never been opened in nearly two years ive had it

Adrienne
yo dawg, I heard you liked filters so I put a filter on your filter so you can filter while you filter... Very good Ira I was just wondering if it would remove the fine particles. I only use sintered glass in two trays + ceramic noodles in the other and the sponges that go around the baskets. If I use filter wool as well I find my filter gets airlocks. No I am not worried about the misty water atm but I will be again in a few weeks when its still there I have wondered for a while about the best way to polish the water without having to lift out the cannister to keep cleaning the filter (its heavy and I'm not strong enough at the end of a long day  ) I also wondered if I could adapt it to fit the fx5 hose which is pretty large but perhaps I will have a go at making one myself. More interested in putting them on a couple of the tanks in the shed than in the house really. This is good information - please keep it coming
