Morcs
Just wondering what the likely outcome of that would be. I have two absolutely stunning Vieltail blue rams (even nicer than elec blues IMHO) and wondering about adding a female elec blue. Vieltail electric blue rams would be very nice indeed
Aquila
I've thought about doing this as well as an experiment. Have no idea what to expect. Maybe a mixed colour F1s with no veil tails? I think veil tails are recessive so could get something interesting with F2.
phoenix44
Vieltail electric blue rams would be very nice indeed easier said than done. try it. you never know what happens until you experiment. we don't know the genotype so can't really comment. Aquila
The 2 males should be able to work it out in a 80L with a large foot print. They will scrap for a few days but will mind their own business eventually.
Barrie
its hard for me to understand but why would you cross different types? I can only compare it to crossing different types of Killi (different Gardneri of Nigerianus) serious question and Im certianly not having a go, just interested
phoenix44
same species. i reckon electric blue veit tail rams would be pretty darn cool

Just like with fighters and guppies etc... you breed them to get colour/finnage etc... that is desireable.
ryanjury
Yeah they are the same fish just both highly line bred to give specific traits so a cross between the 2 would be advantageous in introducing new genes to either line. Without knowing what the genes do I would guess you would get a large number of normal blue rams out of that cross but they would carry the long finned and electric blue gene crossing offspring would result in some elecric blues and some long finned babies. But putting offspring back to the parents would be the best as you would get the largest amount that exhibit the traits you want and they would be hardier from the introduction of new blood. Of course without knowing how the genes work it is just guess work but the cross would soon tell you
Whiskas
i crossed my gold ram female (not balloon) with a veiltail blue ram male. Only have one offspring - have to admit i not to great at saving the babies  will do better next time *fingers crossed* - and the offspring who survived is golden and looks to have longish fins (not as long as dad though). I realise that one survivor doesnt necessarily depict the trend though lol The gold ram female is not putting on condition at all at the mo have no idea why! Got her some live feed from the stream today. But am hoping to try again and save a few more offspring this time!!! Would be interesting to compare the results
