henward
peppering on the pigeon lines are minimal cos of the white sand. amazing impact the white sand makes on the colour of the fish! 8 in total. accumulating more! i want a school of 15 ish......maybe 20 lol

henward
as i obtain more breeds, i will post them as i go along on this thread:d the tank is only 260L silica sand brightens up the colour so i will convert the 1200L to white sand too. also,, i find that white sand requires less siphoning than gravel. i will move the 4pink tails to the big tank when i get back from holiday and my red aro is picked up by the buyer. i will also move the ck to the big tank, reducing the bio load of this , thus enabling me to add more discus. grow them all together, and as they get big, move them to the big tank. but in saying that, also because david is putting his ornate in that tank lol, and that is a big fatty, 3cm discus will be lunch! Moya
Ooooooooh the white butterfly is BEAUTIFUL. Until this instant I had thought them kinda unattractively patterned but that one is just awesome!

That's interesting... I thought that fish showed better colour over dark substrate? I personally don't like my white aragonite sand as it is almost impossible to keep looking 'clean'. henward
geophagus keeps the sand clean. both my tanks will hvae them. they constantly graze on the sand, everything is dislodged and its very clean for white sand. clown loaches help disturb the bottom too. the white makes the colour purer. in red pigeon blood lines, peppering is inevitble. black spots on the red body. like the checkerboard in my pic, has peppering in the white and red parts. but the white sand minimises that and on the white butterfly, completely removes it. the white butterfly has a blue sheen like a hologram on it. i thought so too, but aparently white makes them colour up. Fruju
Nice, If I did discus I would go all Blue diamond, 1 strain all the way in uniform blue. Wouldnt the chalceus eat all the food quickly though?
henward
yeah, the chalceus is really piggish, they but chalceus do not go to the bottom unless starving. so i put c gold pellets and colourbits, 90% of the colourbits sink. they dont seem to feed off surface, i think the weird body shape makes it harder, when its floating down and on the ground they grab it. so it works out:D black aro will be trained to eat c gold. so i can use 2 pellets to feed entire tank
Discusguru
Nice discus collection. Look like they settle in well. Thanks for returning the bucket  ron
henward
no worries ron! yeah they are settling in. ill add more photos on here tomorrow! picking up two more. all eating colourbits, c gold floating. will try discus tucker when i am back from holiday end of month, i wanna ensure that colourbits are imprinted in their minds:D
Discusguru
mine will take colorbit no problem
henward
yeah, all are taking colourbits now. some are more piggish than others. amazing, the re turquoise eats horrendously! it will be a fat one when its bigger. it just grazes all day until there is nothing to graze. i wanna make sure they eat colourbits as a primary diet, then discus tucker as a treat. Discusguru
discus tucker can be quite messy.
henward
yeah, used them before. its ok, geophagus cleans up. i tend to set up my tanks so there is layers of feeding lol. the discus fish tends to chew up food and are slow eaters compared to other cichlids. but, when the food is chewed up, clown loaches and geophagus clean it up so the silica sand remains white and clean:D geo phagus even chew feces............whcih is kinda cool, yet disturbing. Dave+Amy
I did a week's worth of trial run with the discus tucker and for some reason the colours are more vibrant in the week of Discus tucker than colourbits? Same amount of waterchange too so I know it's not that
henward
wow discus tucker does not have as much vitamins as colourbits, but it is raw meat, garlic and veges, shrimp and bloodworm all mulched. interesting though. perhaps the meat smell makes them all frenzied and colour up:D
firenzenz
The only prob with colour bits is it tends to taint white ( white Diamonds, checkerboards, pigeons etc) and yellow Discus become melon coloured. They do love it though.
