mcrudd
My fish are having so much babies I can't keep up. I have a nursery tank that is full of fry, well over 60 its got swordtail fry in it from two females that had babies, just before them I had well over 80 bristlenose fry as well, now it looks as if my danio's (must be them because the mollies, glasscatfish, cherriebarbs and harlequins are still very small) had fry. I have no idea what to do anymore, the kids get very upset when the fry gets eaten by the other fish so I always rescue them, but my nursery is getting fuller and fuller. For a beginner I guess I am doing something right if they are popping fry so often LOL, they are worse than mice (had them as a child) Do you guys suggest I just let the circle of life take place or keep on trying to rescue them? Gosh I never knew fish had so much babies the whole time
alanmin4304
The best excuse ever to get another tank.
alanmin4304
Don't forget the fry will grow and if you overcrowd them too much you will lose the lot.
mcrudd
The best excuse ever to get another tank. Would love one, a huge one and then get lots and lots of pleco type fish Don't forget the fry will grow and if you overcrowd them too much you will lose the lot. That is my biggest problem now, I might take the bigger sword babies to Animates. I think I might just let the circle of life happen in my tank, will keep the lights off to give them a bigger chance of surviving and it will make it difficult for the kids to see them being chomped up. My five year old daughter is in tears as she saw the one being eaten and then spit out dead. Guess it was not tasting good enough for the danio :-? Zev
You could go for male only fish as a display tank.
Caryl
I read the title and thought "Wow, if they can't tell the difference they have a problem!" Mice stink, fish don't. The kids need to get used to nature and the life (or death) cycle. As Zev suggested, remove all the females. You could also get rid of the live bearers. I know you said your danios spawned but, if I remember correctly, they weren't in the main tank at the time were they? (I might be confusing you with someone else) My egg layers spawn in the tank too but the eggs usually get eaten and only one or two fry occasionally survive. If you have a heavily planted tank and driftwood you can say the BNs are just hiding

mcrudd
You could go for male only fish as a display tank. won't they fight with all the testerone in the tank and no way to release it? I do love all the different male pleco's but not sure if it will work having six males of the schools I currently have. Great idea though, wish it was possible I read the title and thought "Wow, if they can't tell the difference they have a problem!" Mice stink, fish don't. They are much bigger than my small schooling fish too.
