Insect Direct
Mr Obvious  Ok so does anyone know what happened to it?
alanmin4304
Somebody bought it. It is probably a bit like the albinos, not as easy as some think, or they would be hopping all over the place.
Insect Direct
To true I would love to see a pic, black eyes on a yellow frog would be stunning.
Gannet
i know the lady that sold it, even got to see it a few times, ended up being brought buy a guy in Hamilton he put it into a tank unheated and it went into hibernation and that was the last i herd, not sure if it came out of hibernation or not. he also cut a toe off it and sent it germany for dna testing
Nymox
Poor thing, someone should cut off his toe
Insect Direct
crazy maybe he sent the frog to Germany at the same time :-? What did he hope to achieve by getting a dna test done do you know? Aurea seem to handle cooler temps but im not sure how cold just yet. alanmin4304
There is a reason why they are only found in the top of the North Island. Albinos are weaker than normals and they may be as well.
Insect Direct
is that scientific or just observation? Are there southern bells up north?
alanmin4304
I think a few people thought the albinos would brumate outside like the normals but only the normals came out of brumation. I brumated mine at 16-18 degrees and they were OK.
Insect Direct
my albino's have been around 15C maybe even under 10C in the past. I didnt know much better  thats only night time temp though.
alanmin4304
They might survive but why risk it. There aint that many out there so someone has been knocking them off.
Insect Direct
yes i agree, i wont be trying it again with my albinos anytime soon. They seem pretty hardy to me but maybe ive just been lucky.
sneaky2
is that scientific or just observation? Are there southern bells up north? Many southern bells up north! at least as far as parakai?south head (an hour north of auckland.....Anyone seen them north of there?
Insect Direct
True i didnt realise they were so far up north. Was thinking maybe the southerns simply eat the aurea but dont survive up north in the heat therefore aurea survive. Still possible they dominate more so at lower temps. But looks like the aurea just dont like the cold.
alanmin4304
Thats the one, and the whistlers don't like the heat so you get green and golds or whistlers but not both and the southern bells don't seem to care as they probably eat both the others. Bloody Strains.
Insect Direct
Apparently the Leucistic's have a dominant gene. But i cant find anything online to back that up?
livingart
Apparently the Leucistic's have a dominant gene. But i cant find anything online to back that up? leucistic axie x normal will give you nrmal looking offspring the pied gene can be dominant though
Insect Direct
True i didnt think about comparing to axies. Interesting stuff.
alanmin4304
Only a guess but I would have thought that if it was dominant there would be a lot more around (even with them being easier for predators to see).
