Carlos & Siran
Had to go bush this morning at the run off looking for some AWL heifers, come round the corner, and sitting nicely on a huge rock was a massive snail shell. My first thought was a native carnivorous snail, but the ones I've seen on the telly are more spiralish, does anyone have any Ideas?, Siran thinks it's a Kauri snail? Scottie841
It is a Kauri snail. There are lots of them in the bush out round Crane road & 3 Mile Bush road
Carlos & Siran
LOL, that's exactly where I found it, our run off is on Church RD, just off Pipiwai RD. Our farm's on Crane RD. Thanx Scottie
Scottie841
Hopefully it doesn’t stink too much. All the ones I have seen have always still had decomposing snail in them and they were very potent on the nose
djsurfs
Nice find! LOL, Scottie sure is right about the stink factor though... ooooooh, you live in such a beautiful area; the rock formations & waterfalls are gorgeous! Hey, are these snails only found in Northland? I've found dozens, but only seen a live one once! it was trying to cross the road...

jolliolli
Be aware that collecting kauri shells, be it live or dead is not permitted.
