SamH
Make sure it sinks, soak it in salt water, boil it, test with some cheap/common fish. HTH

Carlos & Siran
A little bit of salt won't hurt, as long as it doesn't have any pollutants on it it'll be fine, just wash her off and chuck her in
Stella
check it isn't rotten scrub to get rid of dirt/sand put in tank
suphew
I've read that boiling with a little baking soda helps get it to sink. personally I chuck mine in my pond until it sinks and I'm ready to use
Zev
Ha - I gave Jim r a piece yesterday that hardly fit in the boot of his car, let alone in a pot on the stove! Nice to meet you over the weekend too, k1w1y2k. Did you get the wood from off the beach by the Aquarium?
jim r
And it is a beautiful piece :bounce:
David R
check it isn't rotten Most important thing, rotting rood will turn a small body of water toxic pretty quickly. Soak it in fresh water, changing it regularly until you're happy its clean and not rotting.
Caryl
As said, check for rot then wash and chuck in. I too have heard that baking soda helps make it sink faster but I do not know if it actually so. I suggest people try it anyway 8) I scrub mine with a nail brush then hose it down and add. There is little salt left in it if it is hosed well and the nooks and crannies cleared of debris.

Zev
One of the guys who works at the Aquarium said that it was the most driftwood he has seen along the beach for a long time. I will have to go and have another rummage, I got a few bits of nice dark stuff the other day, gave the biggest one to Jim r.
