Carlos & Siran
I like a couple of rums at night but man it's quite expensive really, decided to see if it was viable to make my own but all the evidence points to it being quite complicated, and the only still on *that site* was about 800 bucks......I don't think so Tim!!. Was wondering if any of you clever buggers on here knew how to make a cheap still or a cheats way at making a nice smooth rum?
kiwiplymouth
Check these guys out. http://www.spiritsunlimited.co.nz/ I used to make my own and the set up costs were nothing like that. A pot still is the cheapest option. Plus you can use the excess co2 from your fermentation process in your planted tanks
Rugz
My stepdad has a still, I tryed the vodka, was good, strip the hair off a cat, but good. He's staying with us during the week, I'll ask him where he got his stuff from on Tues night.

Carlos & Siran
So with the basic still setup, can you only make the base alcohol then add the flavorings or can I make a rum from the get go?
phoenix44
omg! Rum FTW. its cheap to get the stuff from the liquor store, but how much cheaper and better and smoother is the home brew?
Carlos & Siran
When you have 3 kids, another on the way, 4 tanks and bills up the waa whoo, even 34 bucks a week on a tipple is hard to justify sometimes
Jennifer
OMG, have you tried Havana Club Cuban rum? It is arguably the finest rum in the world and we are so lucky to be able to get it here in NZ. I have a recipe for a lime daquiri with white Havana Club and it is so fine. Also, gold Havana Club and coke is a million times better than Bacardi. I never was much of a rum fan before that, but now I just love it.
