livingart
hi ashley007 welcome to the forums an air pump is not entirely necessary if your tank is lightly stocked and you are getting good water movement at the surface allowing an exchange of gases it will help though

smidey
Hi & welcome. on the oxygen side of things you have a couple of easy choices, use an air pump or use you filter to disturb the surface of the water which will in turn oxygenate the water. Jennifer
Hi Ashley, welcome to the forums. There is a good fish group here in town, called Totally Tanked. It is a great place to meet others in the area who are into fish. We are having a movie night at the aquarium this Saturday. If you are interested in coming, let me know. Also, you can keep an eye on the club forum (viewforum.php?f=6) to see when the next meeting is. Jen
N1CK
Welcome to the forums , surface movement works a lot better than an air pump as well
alanmin4304
Welcome to the forums. An air pump works by creating surface movement and therefore increasing the surface area for the exchange of gases.
