sneaky2
I think it was about $8000 to apply to become containment facility i.e D.S.I.R (NOT A ZOO) n then animals can only be moved from cf to cf with written permission...bla bla bla Sounds a lot easier to just move country. And yet the powers that be have alowed the D.S.I.R to import CANE TOADS and AFRICAN CLAWED FROGS in the past for research, :roll:I wonder if they had to do an environmental impact report for that? :-? I presume universitys must be containment facility as well as they turned up there for dissection apparently.

They mostly only get females, harvest the eggs from them each year for embryonic research and then they eventually get euthanized. They are kept within a containment facility. I don't believe there are any left currently at the uni but i have heard that auckland zoo had some reproducing.

It is $2000 to get the licence, then you have to update it every year and pay maf to come out a certain number of times a to check it still is maintained to standard at a hourly rate. Navarre
Yes charlie and they have to inspect fences you have to have prior permision to relocate animals anywhere have approved vet facilities be in a breeding program or serender all eggs/offspring and so on and so on
Charlie
it all depends on what you want the facility for? each has its own standard...

livingart
so are you setting up to import then?
sneaky2
  n round n round she goes  seems its human nature to want what you cant have,a lot of hobbyist overseas would give there left nut for some of our natives!...no greek, hermans or box torts in private hands in australia(legaly ones anyway)
Charlie
so are you setting up to import then? what would be the point? you cant release them to public... id just have a really expensive import room... But i would be then allowed a crocodile... but not really worth it? id rather spend the money on what you can have.
Navarre
So back to the point are you spending money on what you can have or what you are allowed....there is a BIG difference here. Which means to say you can have Leopards ...but they have no status You can have iggies....but ditto You can have torts ....oh hang on thats the same some some speices You are allowed natives...and they shouldnt cost you much at all Just wondering
Charlie
i dont like the natives due to the paper work on having to get them, i may get some one day but at the moment i simply cant be bothad with all the drama. I am getting the Leos because i like the colouring of them. Lots of reptiles dont have status in NZ like the bearded dragons, but they are most common? Torts are reconised by MAF its just finding a breeder with stock to sell is the issue.

I have found its more like finding a breeder(torts n boxies) who trusts you enough to sell or swap you some.....native paperwork is realy easy, once again finding a breeder who trusts you enough is the thing.....So are you building trust? or building walls? David R
THANKS TO DAVID ON THIS FORUM FOR MAKING THIS INFO AVAILABLE Maf's logic is flawed and the Minister is acting on bad advice, but nevertheless there it is in writing...PM David R for a copy. If this is in regards to the list I asked David Carter for, I haven't actually seen a copy of it yet! Someone else has taken over from where I left off by asking for a copy under the OIA, which I hadn't thought of doing, as the email I got from him said they were compiling a list but weren't going to release it for ages until it was complete. If someone could send me a copy that'd be great..
