have a small tank on my beside cabinet

have made up a canister filter from bits and pieces using a 400lph powerhead to run it. the filter including piping probably holds around another two litres

the powerhead and small elite 50w heater are hidden by a fake stump .

lighting is about 20 leds

did originally have a betta in there it died months ago so put some convict fry in for a while they are now too big so have been rehomed

just after suggestions other than another betta to see if theres anything out there that mite be suitable

i dont want suggestions of daphnia or boatmen either guys

there must be something cool and small out there thats gunna stay small

on the box the tank came in it said it was suitable for up to four goldfish but dont worry i wasnt that guillible

If you put four goldfish in, where would the water go? :o

That is a tiny tank! Seriously, I would have thought there would be some fish that might survive in there, but not many that would thrive? The only fish that immediately sprang to mind (other than a betta) was a sparkling gourami, but I don't know much about them, so that may be a bad idea. Sorry I can't be of any help!

Yeah they are awesome little fish they are in the country though, I just got 8 of them and I am hoping to breed them if they will do it for me.. There should still be people around keeping/breeding them..

They are so cool. Are they quite pricey? I heard they are somewhat difficult to keep, have you found that to be true?

I just have them in a 30 x 30 x 30cm tank unheated in the fishroom, they eat anything and so far seem undemanding? The guy I got them off has had them for ages with no problems and bred them previously too. I think it maybe like all fish sometimes bad batches come in, and also these guys are a new discovery so all fish would be fairly close to wild so maybe they don't thrive as much if they are just thrown into a tank with different water parameters (I researched and replicated their wild conditions) and bigger fish that would chase them around all day? I have seen alot of spawning type activity from them but I am going away so cannot do it properly just loaded the tank up with moss and hope some fry survive.

cherry barbs get to about 4cm though...

so you could stick:

ember tetras

scarlet badis

betta

CPDs

a few male guppies?

pygmy corys

sparkling gourami would work, only get to 3ish cm

suggestions so far + ones that I can think of atm

I think badis and dario are slightly different, apparently dario are under 2.5cm max and badis are 4 to 5 cm max. Dario also lack the badis' dark spots at the base of the caudal fin and under the eye.

Have seen some dario around and they are sooo cute!
