oO SKIPPY Oo
1) i got this fish from a friend but the tank looked shocking - i swear you could run your finger on the glass and it would come out black - its in what was my baby tank so that i can keep it seperate from the others but not sure if i should dose the tank "just in case" with meth blue to kill any bugs it may be carrying 2) how long should it be in solitary confinement ? cheers Skip
ryanjury
No point dosing with meth blue it is pretty much pointless as a general cure all an only really works on fungus. Just keep the fish separate for a month or even longer keep a good eye on it make sure it is healthy eats fine and does everything a healthy fish should. livingart
as ryan said just keep it seperate a filthy tank from a human perspective may not look the same through fishy eyes
oO SKIPPY Oo
its a VERY VERY shy fish - every time i go near the tank it tries to hide (not much room to hide in a 38L tank) and changes color dramatically then stays there till i stop moving around for about 5 mins - is this normal fish behaviour ? livingart
from your description of the tank he may not be used to things walking past the tank or looking in staying still is a defense mechanism, if i stay still you can't see me
SamH
Tried turning the lights off?
oO SKIPPY Oo
no lights on the tank - its in the kitchen so in a fairly bright spot anyway - he / she seemed to do when in the original tank - i honestly thought there was no fish in there at all cause it always hid i hope it changes its attitude and plays nice with my fish when i move it over
Barrie
algie is no real problem and at this time of the year when I go away for 3 weeks, I encourage it as if my fish get hungry they will eat it As I get my enjoyment from breeding my fish, I dont have (or want) lights on my tanks so that the fish are not as timid when people are near them
Adrienne
you may find that when another fish is added that the new one won't be so shy. If the fish has been in a tank with dirty algae covered glass it won't be as used to movement and lights.
