Dimsum
Looks like the banned stuff, but can anyone confirm before I buy myself some trouble from MAF http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Aquatic-plants/auction-251983389.htm
alanmin4304
It looks like V. americana or spiralis. I am still trying to find out what the exact status is but at the moment I understand it is not permitted.
Caryl
I picked up a booklet today called the National Pest Plant Accord (2008) which says all the plants listed in it are considered pests throughout NZ. All are banned from sale, propagation and distribution. One of those listed is Vallisneria spiralis. I can't find a V. nana in any of my plant books. A full copy of the NPPA booklet and updates can be viewed at http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/nppa Further information can be found on the Weedbusters website http://weedbusters.co.nz
alanmin4304
Yes Caryl I was sent a copy of that from the Regional Council when enquiring about another aquatic plant. It names gigantea and spiralis only but says to contact your Regional Council. I am still trying to get more sense out of mine. It seems safe in the meantime to stay away from all straight leafed varieties of Vallisneria. The picture is of the variety sold as americana or spiralis (the long thin variety)
