Ira
It was probably submerged in oil for improved cooling. Relatively commonly done.
oeminx
It was probably submerged in oil for improved cooling Almost, it is to have silent cooling. Gamers don't like noisy fans, I have been tempted to do one my self for a media centre pc.

Ira
I just turn the volume up to silence that 20cm fan on my comp. gfx cards fans make a lot of high freq revving though! *Turns video card fan to 100%* WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU. SPEAK LOUDER! Haha, when I put in my new video card a couple weeks ago I was a bit startled when the fan spun up. It's ridiculously loud at 100%, I've turned if off auto and just running it at a steady 30% now.
