Do any of you have small, dull lights in your tanks? could be any sort of light as long as its dim... and you put it on after the main lights are out. (even if its the real moon shining off a mirror LOL).

some have them to see nocturnal fish.

any pics to share? :D

Im experimenting with a couple of options at the moment.

I brought a strip of 10 clusters of 3 Blue LED's from Jaycar a while back, just poke in 12v and they rock! my low voltage power supply has multiple output voltages and they dim nicely at 9v also.

I fitted them inside my plain old Aqua one light next to the fluro tube and use them to watch my plecs and Bichir do their thing at night.

The light can be pretty bright before they seem to care...I can get my nose right up to the tank and the plecs are still casual about my presence, a nice change from them bolting as soon as they see me.

The only problem is I tend to fall asleep watching them...although that might be attributed to all the fizzy brown "lemonade" I drink while watching them...I'm getting old  zzzzzzzzzzzz

I have a marine blue tube on the tank (its a 3ft tube) and I think its too bright. so what ive done is used one of those 11W (0r is it 22w) underwater bulb things. and the effect is really nice. ripples go all over the room in the dead if the night.

I would love a 12V converter thing, but those are overly expensive though aren't they?

Depends what you consider overly expensive. Dick Smith has 12v 1 amp power supplies for $20, Jaycar seems to have a better variety, some a little cheaper.

I have a 3-foot 'biolux' tube on my planted tank. Although it's 30 watts you wouldn't know it to look at - it's quite a dimmish looking purple/blue to the naked eye. I have set it to come on 30 mins before the main lights, and off 30 mins after the main lights.

I love the way it looks on the tank. The plants seem to fade away into the background and the fish stand out like startling little gemstones! It brings out all the reds and blues, so the gold and cherry barbs look lovely and the cardinal tetras are absolutely stunning! That last half hour in the evening is like having a whole new magical tank, and my partner and I both end up gazing at the tank no matter what's on TV.
