twinkles
I got some new fighters a few days ago, and they're all real fat One of the girls in particular though, has some sticking out scales, worried she might have dropsy? She's active enough, doesn't seem sick, but her tummy is huge and the scales on the bottom half of it are sticking out. I've split them up because they were picking on each other and i didn't want the fattest to get all the food, but whats the best course of action from here? Should i feed her less than i would normaly, keep the water pristine and hope she comes right? Or do i need to add salt/meds?
Southerrrngirrl
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=40758 In particular alanmin4304's post, saying by the time they get to the pine cone stage its too late. I've only had a few fish with dropsy and have tried to cure them, but with no success. I believe it is very hard to treat and there aren't many people around who have successfully cured a fish of dropsy.
twinkles
not at the pinecone stage yet... just a few scales noticable. I hope she'll be ok
LYNDYLOO
If you wanted to try, you could give her a course of Furan2. and see if that helps.
bronze-dragon
just about to say that Lyndy. we have used Furan in the past with beach ball shaped girls but with little success, never hurts to try tho does it.
twinkles
she's looking better now, scales have gone down... i think it might just be that she's fat, it was after i fed her for the first time this morning that her scales were sticking out, and it was only slightly and around her belly. Now that her meal has moved on her scales look normal. Googled pics of dropsy and they really looked like pinecones, she just had a few scales slightly raised, couldn't see it from the top. Might put her on a diet of the plain boring flakes with pea and stuff in them, and hope she gets slim..
LisaC
What do you do with the peas (just pop them in?) and how readily will they eat them? I have one that has scales sticking out a bit, and is rather fat. She has not long dropped all the eggs she was stuck with, and is now just fat all over
twinkles
defrost one, and squeeze it out of the skin, they just eat the inside part
LYNDYLOO
I pop the peas into a Cup, pour abit of Boiling Water over them, then give them a squish to remove the outer shell, then pop them into the Tank, my Fish Love them.
