mattwa
Hi everyone, So. we bought a 300l aqua one tank today and we're thinking about how to set it up. It will be a planted discus tank. What is the best substrate to keep the ph down? If you have any pics of your setups, they would be appreciated. Matt & Emily
Adrienne
Heres mine Used Daltons propagating sand as the gravel. The bottom pic is the original setup. The tanks 450 litres, and I run an FX5 on the tank. Lots of driftwood keeps the pH at 6.
mattwa
That looks really good! Are you running CO2 in there as well?
Adrienne
no CO2, and I no longer have the twisted val as it didn't like the flourish excel. Will be revamping it later this year and hope to get hold of a bigger variety of plants.

mattwa
That looks good too! So many different ways to setup...One chance to get it right straight away! I think it's an Aqua One Grande 120. Do the discus not mind the liquids for plant growth?
Adrienne
Do you mean the flourish excel? discus can handle it but not double doses. Best to mix it with some tank water before putting into the tank so that it is not as concentrated. JBL fertiliser balls work well on the heavy root feeders like sword plants, just be careful not to disturb them unless you want dirty water.
