LYNDYLOO
I don't have an FX5, but I use Eheim Substrate Pro, in all of my External Filters Expensive but well worth it, Fantastic Stuff :bounce:
R32GOTMLK
i just use noodles in the top 2 and bio balls in the bottom and fiter pad on top of all the baskets
LYNDYLOO
You would be better getting rid of the Bio Balls and replacing them with more Noodles, I found my filtration improved heaps by doing away with the Bio Balls
R32GOTMLK
hi in what way did your filtration improve?
LYNDYLOO
Had a problem with cloudy Tanks, got rid of the Bio Balls, and in a few days the Tanks were clear, so I'm putting it down to the extra Eheim Pro that was added to my Filter. purplecatfish
I use noodles (JBL sintomec or microtec) in the lowest two baskets and I have the top basket half full with noodles. I put a homemade polishing pad (polyester wool circle cut out from a large piece that I got from a fabric shop),and a coarse pad on top of that (the blue ones that you buy from the local LFS). If I'm being good with the tank cleaning, I throw the polyester pad out after a fortnight on my overcrowded tank. Usually it's about a month for the other tanks.
