Mad Whip
Hi all, What would be the down side of just tipping a liter of carbonated water out of a soda stream machine into a 250l planted tank every other day would it help? Cheers James
LYNDYLOO
I'm sure this has been done before. Only thing I think is, it would surely be beter to have Slow Release CO2, rather than putting it into the Tank in one quick burst. CO2 can cause fluctuations in the PH in your Tank. Meaning your Tank wouldn't have stable PH Levels. Will see what other Info I can find on this for you. Lynda
LYNDYLOO
Here's abit of Info for you viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1417&p=13251&hilit=Carbonated+CO2#p13251
phoenix44
you will kill your fish. the pH will drop incredibly fast. fish will start breathing heavily and then die. think of the acidity and thus the pH.

I could still use the soda stream bottle but fit it up to a defuser or into the power head air line all Macgyver style. I just don't want a bottle of goo sitting in my office. Is why I'm being different.
silva
you can get a 'soda stream co2 mig wielder kit' from mitre10 that has a regulator to fit soda stream bottles, quite expensive for the whole kit but you could possibly buy the parts separately? Mad Whip
ah silva cheers for that info. I was wondering how I could knock the psi down so I could use a boost solenoid and a simple timed circuit and 12volt transformer. This project may get out of hand yet

phoenix44
oh LOL. so now you are wanting to use brew your own CO2, or do you have a co2 bottle with solenoid etc? I used to run DIY CO2 through my external filter, and had great results.
wagonman
how do you run it through your external filter
phoenix44
you put the pipe that releases the CO2 into water suction bit of the cannister pipe. the bubble gets sucked up by the filter, impellor breaks the bubble down, and it diffuses into the water through the cannister chambers etc.
whetu
you put the pipe that releases the CO2 into water suction bit of the cannister pipe. the bubble gets sucked up by the filter, impellor breaks the bubble down, and it diffuses into the water through the cannister chambers etc. Good idea! That's what I would do if I were to set up DIY CO2 again. Much more subtle than the bubble ladder on the back wall.
