LYNDYLOO
I bought an Elite 100W heater a few weeks back, so put it in this Plastic Box that I'm using as a Temp Tank for my Guppies. Has anyone had any trouble with these?? I put it in the Guppy Tank yesterday afternoon, wound it upto 24, went out for tea in Palmy came home checked on it, the light had turned off so I thought the Tank must have been upto the required Temp, check it this morning when I feed them, thought it felt abit cold, so looked at the thermometer and the Temp was 20 Wound the heater upto 26 then 28 then 30 nothing happened, continued to turn it upto 32 as far as it goes, then the light finally decides to come on So I'm assuming this Brand New Heater is FAULTY, anybody had any trrouble with these. This Heater was alot more than what I normally pay for a heater, and what I thought was good quality, but obviously not.

Mr McFish
What sort of angle do you have it on? could you put in something to circulate the water? If you do take it back you could try swaping for a fluval one I got one second hand and it works great and is so accurate.

Caryl
If you still have the receipt you can take it back to the shop as it will be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act.
BikBok
a few weeks back I had to make a makeshift hospital tank from a plastic terranium , I had an airsponge filter for circulation but the heater just didn't keep it warm enough, especially overnight. Yet that SAME heater was fine in a larger glass tank.. so it may just be the plastic box not keeping the heat in?
Romeo
We had an Elite one lock-on not long ago. Guy at animates swapped it without even asking for a receipt or looking at the box. We've had all sorts of troubles heating our tanks (gets down to 3°c inside some nights), so we covered our tanks with 2 fleece blankets each during the night. Surely saved us a lot on the tank heating, as the lights were hardly on during the night when they were covered.
LYNDYLOO
Husband was up in Palmy, so got him to go into Animates and pick up another Heater, will take the Faulty Heater back and get a refund for it. When I took it out of the Guppy Tank it was full of water, so not sure whats going on with that.

BikBok
When I took it out of the Guppy Tank it was full of water, so not sure whats going on with that. ooh that doesn't sound good.. I think this is what happened with my first tank years ago... I came home to find my fish all dead and the water was very warm and I felt an electrical current in it!!! I was so devastated and upset that i packed up the tank and haven't gone near fish again till recently .. so I'm like a beginner again.
