Caryl
How does it feel to be referred to as a "chick" at your age Adodge? 8)
GeeTee
I'm in the same boat as luckyfish and want to start and keep discus. I'm in Aus and am planning a trip to NZ at the end of the year and would be away for 2-3 weeks and the main concern was water changes. Am considering putting off getting started 'till I come back. I would hate to lose fish while someone else was feeding them.

I had my father-in-law to feed my fish for 3 weeks some time ago, he killed at least 3 of them. just some guppies, so it's not that heart-broken, but it's definitely going to be painful if it's discus. luckyfish
just went and saw Ron today. quite impressed with his fish and his passion in fish. got a test kit at Hollywood fish farm at discounted price. (they running a special at the moment, a kit including pH, NH4/NH3, NO2, GH/KH only cost $29). gave my water a full test just now. The last water change was 1 week ago. NH4/NH3 0, NO2 0, GH 60mg, KH < 10mg, NO3 20mg, pH 6.5 It looks like I'm ready for Discus?

Caryl
A message stays in the outbox until the recipient opens it. If it was still there after several hours it meant they had not yet checked for messages.
luckyfish
thanks for the tips, Caryl. one more question, guys. How often should I clean the canister filter. That last time I cleaned it was one month ago. thanks,
LYNDYLOO
When the flow rate stars to slow, that usually means it's time for a clean Just remember, always clean your Filter Media in Tank Water only
Caryl
As said, no need to clean out a canister filter until the flow rate slows. Mine goes 6 - 12 months between cleans
