JarrenB
hi they sold it as a "grey catfish" and charged me $12.00. :-? at the time it looked like a fair price?
kiwiplymouth
$12 at the LFS for a common plec is a fair price IMO
phoenix44
let him settle down a bit and you will see some nice colours and patterns. $12 is pretty good. Larger stores charge $
JarrenB
Thanks it is looking good with no signs of stress. But what I don't get is why pet shops sell fish under strange names and often the staff no nothing. do you have any ideas on the sex? :-? phoenix44
Fish as basic as this should be identifiable by a shop IMO. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=148 good link and info for it. maybe the person in the shop just didn't know and made a mistake. sexing isn't usually possible until they are much much larger, and even then it can be quite tricky according to planetcatfish. I wouldn't even attempt hazarding a guess lol.

JarrenB
Thanks for all your help, I am still happy with him/her.
Adrienne
IMO if you like the fish and are happy with the price theres no reason not to buy it. If it gets too big and you don't have a tank you may just have to sell it. I don't know how fast they grow but it looks nice. Not knowing if a plec being sold in the lfs is what its labelled as has put me off buying many times in the past but from next year if I like, I will buy.
