newaqua
Hey guys, looking at building a bigger tank. Wanting to know if anyone can give me an approximate cost of running a heater for a tank say 350L to 400L. I am mainly worried about the cost of heating, as lighting and filtration, do not require or use the same amount of power. If you could help I would be greratful. Just power cost is all I am worried about. Thanks Mike
twinkles
the extent of my knowledge is.. if the heater was 400w and ran 24/7, and your power is 12c/unit, as mine is, it would cost 34.50 per month to run the heater however the heater wouldn't be on 24/7, so it would be less than that. If you have a tank in the same room this one would go in, you could try to make note of how much time the heater spends on and off, or get a gadget to do it for you, then work it out exactly. If it were me i'd assume the heater would be on 1/2 the time, so $17/month I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong
Ira
Depends hugely on the room it's in and your electricity rates. But expect over winter for it to average in a cool room, not insulated about 200 watts. That would be 144 kw/h a month, at 20c per kilowatt hour that's $29/month. Barely enough to worry about. I did put a watt meter on mine a while ago, but I can't remember or find the results.

LYNDYLOO
Not everybody gets 2000 Ltrs a day water allowance, so I guess we are lucky when it comes to that We are Rural but on the Town Water supply, which is trickle fed into our tank. With 5 Males and 1 Female, thats me living together, washing 7 vechiles between us all, loads of washing, seems like it's never ending at times  , showers for us all at least once a day, 2 dishwashers, water changes in Fish Tanks, hosing out the Cattery and the Doggery every day and xtra bits here and there, we have only ever run out once, not sure how many litres we would use in a day, but it would be quite a few.
