Insect Direct
Im after any recommendations for heating an insulated room? Also do heat pumps need an attic/roof space to work? Or does it not matter what you use to heat it as it will take the same amount of energy to heat the area to the desired temp? so its all to do with insulation? hope that makes sense. tia
LYNDYLOO
Hey Matt, Longtime no see, Hope things are all good with you Now to answer your question re: The Heat Pump, you dont need an attic space to install a Heat Pump if it is installed back to back, meaning the heat pump goes onto an outside wall in the Room, then the outside unit is mounted directly behind it outside. We have 4 heat pumps in a house of 380sqmtrs, and they do a wonderful job. Power Bill isnt to bad either Lynda

Also over what time frame? Because...You can get 2 kw heaters from the warehouse for $50 and the price difference between that and the $2000+ heatpump pays for a LOT of electricity. Navarre
I have a 40 ft insulated container I have some 40 or so tanks in the room totalling about 5000-5500 litres of water I use a heater in each of my sumps as a back up and I use a 2 kw fan heater from Mitre 10 (19.95) on a thermostat I notice that the heater comes on rarely...unless I do a big water change or leave the door open I have also noticed that this set up uses less power than when I had a bank of 8 tanks in my garage Maybe heat pumps might dry the air more tho ...not sure about that. suphew
Are you looking for general heating for you house, or just for a fish room? If it's a fish room is it just to take the chill off, or are you going to not have heaters in the tanks and keep the whole room at about 25°? The cheapest options would have to be either solar heating, like a DVS or similar, but this is only going to take the chill off the air. Or a fire box, which can be just about free to run if you don't mind doing a bit of work. But probably not much use in a fish room.

Very true, would love to generate my own power but same thing 25k+ is a few years power so thats just a dream for the future. Wanting to setup once and do it right but money is a we bit restricted. Plan on keeping setup for a year or 2 atleast. Thanks Navarre...glad im not the only one using those fan heaters Im a bit worried its not the safest though and I may come home to fire works some day. Insect Direct
changed title slightly. Be keen to to hear suggestions regarding insulation aswell as the heating. Looking at, pink bats then maybe polystyrene. possibly polystyrene sandwiched in steel that way it would be nice and easy to clean im thinking. acara
Over here we have several types of insulation board, which are sort of a compressed foam, with a foil lining. The main one is Kingspan, which comes in several forms and thicknesses,it is dearer than polystyrene, but is many times more efficient for a thinner sheet. The one I will line my shed with is the K18,it has plasterboard attached to it,with a foil backing for water/damp proofing. There are other cheaper brands. As a cost comparison,it is 56euro a sheet, standard plasterboard is 9euro. You must have something similar there?
