phoenix44
I did the weekly wc on my tank today, and cleaned my 2 fluval 405's, put in some new media stuff etc.. then i had a 3-5 lecture today, and so i went for that. just came back and saw the tank was missing water! its usually filled up to the brim freaked out cause this sort of thing does not happen to me. Luckily I always have a backup plan just in case of the unexpected - the water filled up in the container, and the carpet is undamaged. phew. turns out i didn't seal the top of the filter down properly. so a very small amount of water was escaping. that was close. Moral of the story- Keep your filters in poly boxes! LOL  (and make sure the filters have been sealed properly)
livingart
or a large bucket if your lectures are longer well done

Dixon1990
Will the water ever go over the edge of the container its sitting in? Its happened to me twice and both times its stopped leaking once it fills the container(or i find it when it fills it  )
phoenix44
it'll overflow once the poly box fills up. but itll overflow onto the strategically placed plastic thing. lol. when I got home, it was right at the brim waiting to overflow, lol. i might put them in bigger poly boxes it doesn't cost to put filters in a poly box or bucket or something similar (as long as its shorter than the filter so the wires don't get wet and then the carpet is the least of your worries) and could save everyone with a tank a lot of time, hassle and not to mention money. :bounce:

Actually, the filters probably would be fine completely submerged I'm pretty sure the motors and everything up top are all sealed up, but might void your warranty, I accept no responsibilty etc disclaimer fine print and so on... spoon
i found out the hard way polyboxes are notwatertight , they will be fine with a few inches of water in them but get a decent amont of water in there and it will push it through the the cracks between the beads the effect on the outside looks like the box is having little tears run down the sides
