Brianemone
good on ya fay what kind of tank are they getting?
Fay
610x610x570high we already had the cabinet to match the big tank good old Frog just had to make it sqaure, just as well he is a ex cabinet maker by trade. I bet you all are having a good chuckle about this. The tank will run off the main sump so it will up the litres per fish to help my over stocking problem some. My main concern is the lighting I am intending to use power compact lights because it is only housing enemones and I cant suspend metal pendants where the tank will be. I have concerns for my enemone that I will be transfering because it is directly under 250 metals at the moment any comments would be a help please. wasp
I'm guessing from the pic it's a bleached H. Malu, if so it really would want good light to aid recovery. How much PC?
Fay
55w 80 all up with blues
Brianemone
where are you getting the pcs from?
wasp
Well my opinion only, but I think the anemone would benefit from more light than that.

jetskisteve
could you retrofit a halide over it?
Fay
the tank will only have a band around the top to match my big one and unable to hang halide, would have to bracket it from the wall. Also the tank will be in our line of view over the waikato river so would rather not block it. Plus!!!!!! halide is a lot more in cost dont forget I already had to grease Frog to get the tank in the first place.
Brianemone
the cost isnt really an issue fay as pc's can cost almost as much as a 150W mh availability is a factor to, its really hard to find good quality and high wattage pc's (especially in the kelvin range that youll need for the marine tank)
Pies
PCs will be fine. Not sure where Briananemone has been looking but there are lots of easliy accessible PCs here, in any colour configuration and wattage you may need. PCs are cheaper than halides, but halides are better value on a per watt per luman scale. PCs will be a good option as you tank is shallow and narrow. Something else to consider would be T5s. HEaps around, reasonable priced and easily fitted. I would probably use T5s over PCs personally but PCs will be fine too. Piemania
wasp
I bought a new 150 watt MH last week, the cost was :- ballast $75.00, bulb holder $45.00, bulb $98.00. That's pretty hard to beat in similar wattage af any other type of light. Also remember that the MH bulb will last longer than flouro tubes, and electricity use is less per unit of light produced. Also, the ballast is remote, and the bulb holder smaller than any other type light you would put above your tank.
Ira
Is there anywhere to get PC bulbs in the wellington area? I need an actinic...Not sure what wattage though because I can't seem to find any info on my MH pendant that might tell me what wattage the PC socket is. Pies
WASP - Bulb length for MH is approx 9 months, same for tubes (give or take). Halides have some major drawbacks though - Heat, reflectors, heat & heat $98 is a good price on a MH bulb. Is that single ended and low wattage or low kelven (6500 or less?). pies
