Barrie
As an ex breeder and shower, we normally only let the adults raise no more than 3 as its a bit of a strain. You can also add a bit of either complan or farex daily so that it makes feeding easier on the parents to fill the young
Mr McFish
I mis counted and theres only 3 and an egg that looks ready to hatch. So what happens when this one hatches? Given them some apple also.
Barrie
no They make their own mike Complan or farex just helps as its already "half"made taking a lot of work away from the parents
Mr McFish
Will try to get some tomorrow. If they make it to 8 weeks is this is the best time to start training one? I dont want to hand rear one and kill it. Have you hand reared any before?
phoenix44
baby birds are awesome! :bounce: Congrats. if you dont want to hand rear them, best to leave the parents with the babies until the babies are old enough to leave the nest. if you do hand rear them (this is a very time consuming process if you rear them without the parents, babies need food every third hour or so ) use that kaytee baby hand rearing powder stuff - it is great for birds. its cheap and a small bottle should do, and it should cost the same as baby formula (although i dont know what that would cost). feed the parents good food cause they will need all the energy they can get. Mr McFish
Might just leave it untill there about 8 weeks or atleast feeding on their own.
livingart
just start handling them daily when they start showing pinfeathers wait till mum is out of the nest no perfume or anything like that on your hands, no i am not suggesting you wear perfume you can make your own hand rearing mix but HR not necessary with budgies or cockatiels males are best as pets as they talk best, sexing takes an experienced eye at a young age
Mr McFish
This mum is never off her nest and with the cockatiels its the opposite. how many weeks before they get pin feathers?
