fins
Ok. On my 288 litre tank I am going to set up a system that removes %20 percent of the water over a week. I will just use a clamped airtube for this. But while the water is removed I want it replaced with fresh water. Anyone got any ideas how I could do this. It needs to be able to be attached to a ordinary garden tap. If this works out I will probably set up a system like the above on all my tanks. Also any pictures or suggestions would be good. thanks
ChrisMack
Not too sure on how accurate this would be.....But how about one of those water timers (used for a lot of those micro-spray garden systems) that can be bought at most hardware shops....... dan_from_nz
what about if you use a floating switch like they use in the water resivour in a toilet to automatically top it up, do you have tap water of a good enough quality to run straight into your fish tank??? do you realise if you automatically take out 20% of your tank water a week there will be no room left for a gravel vac???? Ira
I'd set it up for more than 20%. A constant 20% is going to be less of a water change than a single 20%. Something more like 33% would be better, imo. What I'd do is set up a slow drip into the tank and an overflow out. I suppose a quick and dirty overflow would be a hose in the tank going out, downwards and then back up with the to of the outlet being the height you want the water in the tank to be. So as the water pours in the water will dribble out of the hose. If you've got a convenient window or something to run the hose outside through. Number 57
A float valve would do it, (Found at http://www.epa.gov/swerust1/ustsystm/balfloat.htm)
fins
I am think about ira's idea. How do I get a hole cut in my tank? Is there anything I should put over the hole so that fish cant get in or so the pipe doesnt get clogged? Where abouts should I have the hole cut, How far up the side of the glass? My tank is right beside a window. So this be be the best idea.
beblondie
If I understand the idea I think an endcap drilled out and a piece of screen would work-Anne
