ryanjury
Awesome.. Where did you get your altums from?
Olly
i got them from animates maybe 2 months ago at 2-3cm they are now 7-8cm and look awesome, well over 15cm tall
phoenix44
i remember them.... hmm... those are some pretty fast growing fish! damn!
Olly
I couldnt believe how fast they grew. They get fed mostly wardleys gourmet tropical flake with bloodworms or beefheart every 2 or 3 days. Water change every day if I can. They are still guarding the eggs well, although they have trust issues with each other  They are easily my best looking fish I havnt successfully raised angels yet, although I have tried 3 times. Whats the easiest way to make them live?
phoenix44
i always let the parents raise the fry.... they do a good job once they get the hang of it. feed brineshrimp when babies can eat it... parents like it too...
Olly
do they have a chance in with other angels?
phoenix44
mixing fry? if they are all small enough you can combine broods if the parents are not there... bigger fish will eat smaller fish.
Olly
they are currently in with similar sized angels discus and rams cos I didnt think they were old enough yet (and I thought they were both boys anyway)
Dave+Amy
you keep Discus with Angels?
Olly
yea I know I'm not supposed to but they have been together for 2-3 months so far with no problems They ate the eggs over night
phoenix44
people used to say that there is a certain bacteira(???) or something that lived on an angel that was not good for discus... that and the aggression thing... but honestly... i dont know of any one (maybe im wrong) who has lost a discus because the angel attacked it.... plus yours have grown up together too... discus are a lot hardier than are given credit for.. perhaps there is a strong corellation between the price of the discus and how hardy people think they are, lol... think about it... PS - I'd like to see these fish sometime olly! 8)
Dixon1990
you keep Discus with Angels? why not? Do you have any resons not to other than the Parasite/disease thing that angels can apparently giv them?
Olly
Phoenix44 you're welcome to come see them anytime you like, as is anyone else thats interested I think it makes the discus feel safer cos they are in a bigger group, instead of being a group of 7 (number of discus) they feel like they are in a group of 13 (6 angels in with them) = happy discus. They have grown faster since I put the angels in with them
phoenix44
i think the discus will feel happier in my tank *steals!* *yonk*

phoenix44
Ill trade you 5 bolivian rams (fully grown) for a discus, lol :bounce: ill throw in a sheep too.
Olly
sheep?
phoenix44
ok maybe not a sheep. :bounce:
Luke*
pity..you nearly had a free lawn mower. the theory is that angels can survive with a particular type of worms fine but they give these to discus who cannot handle them. Dave+Amy
thought it was parasitic fluke that Angels give Discus? meh guess for me it was if you had Discus why would you bother with Angels, besides you shouldn't have just one Discus on their own - should at least have 5 or 6. what are the differences between Altums and Peruvians? they seems quite similar..is it just the width of the stripes?
