Guest
Hi guys, I dosed my tank yesterday with flourish exel (I sprayed it on) yesterday and today my corys look really bad. Like their fins have gone white and a bit furry and they don't move and some just rest in plants and stuff. I've done a big water change but can't think what else to do. Simian
I dose my tank daily with it and have Sterbai, Peppereds and Juliei corys, never had any issues...stink bro
lmsmith
Do their fins look like finrot? That's how it sounds like your describing it. Maybe it's not related....? :-?
phoenix44
this is related to flourish.... its happened to 2 times in the past as well... what you want to do is a huge water change, and use stresscoat or something like that. its chemical burn on the fish....caused my an overdose or direct exposure of flourish on the wee fish... don't mean to scare you.. but the first time this happened to me I lost 6 discus, and the second time i lost 900worth of fish including all my fancy plecos.... it was after that, i realised it was too much flourish. don't medicate too much, but after the h20 change, add a tiny amount of meth blue and a tiny amount of furan in the water - this is to make sure they do not get disease since they have lost their slimy coating... let me know how it goes... ive managed to rescue clown loaches with this so it is possible... Wok
Just take the corys out and put them in a bucket while you treat your tank. when your tank is finished its treatment, change 50% water and put the corys back.
Guest
Yip done a huge water change and put meth blue in, thats what Ben from Hutt Pets said to do so hopefully it works. I done the same amout as I done last time. It looks like fin rot but the just don't move and they go on their side and stuff.
phoenix44
these are my fish when they got this chemical burn.. look closely at the fins, and the white burn around the body. if yours looks similar then the course of action you are taking is correct.. flourish is a wonderful product, but too much of it is devastating. Guest
Yip thats similar to what they look like. So what I'm doing is right. What else can I do?
phoenix44
stress coat... and lots of it.... depends on how and which fish are affected too.. panda's are relatively expensive, so best to save them all. v regular water changes are also needed... you can directly put Stresscoat on the affected fish when it is in the water... i removed my goldnugget and poured some on him... he was soon fine. Guest
I've done a 50% change today. the only other thing thats majorly affected is the khulies
Guest
So catxch the fish in a net and then put the stress coat over them? Can I do that then move them to a new tank or will that stress them out? I really don't want to lose this group as theres 10 of them in that tank thats been affected. phoenix44
ID Move them to a new tank that has a lot of stress coat in it already.. u can put some on them when you are moving them from one tank to the other.
Guest
everythings back to normal now. Sadly I lost a couple of neons 2 panda corys and my big gold ram died yesterday but I'm not sure if the flourish caused it as he was about a year old. Adrienne
if he was a year old he's done better than other peoples (including me) gold rams.
Guest
yeah but he was the balloon type so maybe they're more hardier than the normal type?
Ira
How much did you dose to burn the fish?
Guest
I think I doubled the dose to get rid of the bba but I must have either doubled the double dose or added another dose to make it 1 1/2 times the normal dose.
