Brookey25
Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could tell me what the process is for introducing a new plant into your tank? I'm taking cuttings from a friend of mine who has only 1 fish in her tank - a 10 year old very healthy fish.. but I still want to take precautions. If you could let me know that'd be great. Do you just give the plants a 7 day course of Melafix or something? Thanks
Caryl
The two things you need to look out for are algae and snails. Melafix won't do a thing for plants. You can dip them in potassium permanganate but I don't know the dosage.
vindy500
get the plant, poke it into the gravel. thats really all you have to do
Adrienne
I put my in potassium permanganate for 24 hrs (mixed so its dark pink), rinse them well and stick them in the tank but the snails still survive!!!
alanmin4304
snail rid (copper sulphate) kills snails (and fish) but can be dosed a few times stronger than instructions but must be rinsed off well before going in the tank. I think plants going into quarantine were treated with alum but I don't know the concentratration and I think it was hard on the plants.
