Insect Direct
Just a couple of pics of me little morsals - 2nd to last photo sorta does them some justice young (2-4wk old approx) morphed about 3weeks bak some from last season (10months old maybe) (same as above jst this lot slightly bigger) Adult japs about 3 years at a geuss) really easy care, keep things simple for these guys ive seen many a tank overdone which results in either lost newts or you never see them and tht can make regular feedings hard. Stella
Aw newts are so cute! PeteS asked me to look after his while he was away. It took a lot of persuading! Really nice seeing the progression of photos, very interesting, thanks

alanmin4304
Do we have more than one type of Japanese fire bellied newt in NZ? Mine don't have as much red as that, particularly on the tail.
livingart
colours vary on them, have seen 2 orange ones with black markings
Insect Direct
Yea colours vary alot, maybe even with age to as i think the orange on tail gets smaller over time, could be wrong though, my female jap (bottom last pic) has a orange stripe on bottom edge of tail. also notice varying colours in my jap young from like a peach (almost pale pink) through orange to red. i used to think japs were red & or orange and the chinese yellow but i bought some young chinese newts last year and im pretty sure they were red (lost the lot so cant compare now) and i dont think ive seen a yellow jap? so hmmmm would it be safe to assume you get reds/orange and yellow from both jap and chinese newts? or red and orange japs and yellow red and orange chinese or just yellow chinese
