WILL PUMICE AFFECT WATER CHEMISTRY IN FRESHWATER TANK??

the problem with pumice is that it can allowthe growth of heterotrophic bacteria in the millions of little holes that dont get oxygen or circulate (dead spaces), these are the bacteria that live in the sludge at the bottom of ponds etc that break up the detritus. the problem with them is that they generate sulphides, which , even in small amounts, is toxic to your fish. this can be seen often in densely populated ponds around the world, one day suddenly all the fish float to the top, poisoned.

the other problem with dead spaces is that NH3, NH4, NO2, etc can build up, then leech into surrounding water via diffusion.

now yes there are natural dead spaces in tanks etc, but my point is that you dont want to ADD more of them... just a consideration.
