LittleNico
Hi guys, new to the site. Me (nico) and my partner (jason) have been hit by the fishy bug and have met quite a few likewise people around tauranga! Got lots to talk about fish (as Im sure we all do!) but am slightly shocked at what happened with our cichlid tank when Jas went overseas for 3 weeks. He usually does all the feedings and about 3 days after he left, and for the 3 weeks he was away, the cichlids kept to themselves, hiding and not trying to jump into my hand to be fed like they used to. Was slightly worried but none died so waited to ask Jas when he got back....Lo and behold about 2 days after he got back they were completely back to normal, bright, happy and following us around the room!! Surely they dont favour people??!! Anyone else encountered this? NOT FAIR!
livingart
welcome to the forums sadly animals/fish like humans can have their preferences for people even exhibiting jealousy over a person at least things are back to normal

SpidersWeb
My fish did this, you'd invite people over to see the giant gourami, and how he'd jump out of the water to grab courgette from you, then he sees them and shyly goes to the back of the tank. Lionheads did the same, angels weren't too bad but more cautious around strange company. Was away from them for a week, came back and my angels went crazy, fins straight up jumping around. (They were fed in this time just not by me) Few years back I had a 3ft tank full of baby platties (200 or so), when I'd come down the stairs you'd see the water splashing. For other people they'd come to the surface, but for me they'd go crazy.
whetu
My clown loaches hide when there are strangers in the room. Visitors look in the tank and see the schools of barbs & tetras and simply have no idea that there's a bunch of big fat stripy guys hiding in the pile of rocks & driftwood at the back. Even food won't tempt them out. As soon as the visitors have gone, the loaches are out digging around as usual. The exception was my partner's 4 year old niece. She came over the other day and was all over the tank (I still need to clean her fingerprints off the front glass) and the loaches came out and acted like she wasn't there! Unheard of! She was jabbing at the biggest loach with her finger shrieking, "look at that big greedy one, it's taking all the food!" Meanwhile he just ignored her. As soon as her parents came to look, there were just innocent-looking barbs & tetras again. *disclaimer: Niece knows not to tap on the glass or put her hands in the water. No fish were harmed in the making of the newest little fish-enthusiast :bounce:
Silvia-15
same with my borneo tigers, goes nuts when i feed them. When my girlfriend trys to feed them, they ignore her and the food like they are not there. (have had many a threat to sell my fish because if they dont like her, she doesnt like them either! )
