supasi
Can anyone suggest what LFS in Aucks are worth a visit at the moment. Im big on South American Fish and general Aquatic plants and the likes. Last time i was up i visited Pupuke And Hollywoods. Can anyone suggest any particular store that you think will be worth while stopping at, I wont have enough time for them all so wanting to know what is worth driving to. Any comments would be great Cheers
Adrienne
Pupuke and Hollywoods for sure, Jansens/Animates Botany or Henderson probably worth a look as well but not their Mt Eden Branch imo.
Matthew
Given that the Mt Eden animates is just down the road from Hollywood it is worth a quick look - sometimes you find something worthwhile. For range of fish you can't go past Hollywood - Mt Roskill branch has the edge in my opinion. Depending on when you come to Auckland Origin aquatics is also worth a look - although I don't know how this stands presently given he is moving. There are also other places further south although I don't normally venture that far out
enzoom1
I mainly go to Hollywood, both Albany and Mt Roskill and they are great. Haven't been to Pupuke but it sounds good. Jansens/Animates are basically everywhere but I find in some stores the staff don't know much about fish but mainly about the cats and dogs etc... one time i went to the silverdale animates branch and there were 3 dead fish in a tank and they were all going mouldy

reef
Only two specialist shops in Auckland now that have the best range and that is Hollywoods in Mt Roskill or Albany. Jansens used to be great many years ago but now they are more interested in selling dog food and pets. Much better margins and lower risk. enzoom1
yeah i know of a couple of people that used to work in the fish department mainly at a Jansens store. They quit because the manager was re-organising the store and a lot of the fish tanks and accessories were being downsized while the other pets accessories were taking their place. RochelleMay
Definatly Hollywood, and Animates can be good depending on the day and who serves you. I have recently been going to Albany and unfortunatly I dont know her name but shes really nice and has her own marine tank and loves fish and is very helpful. Even puts up with me being indesicive and asking many questions. Otherwise for Animates dont bother going to silverdale they have all about 5tanks with fish the rest are empty and yesterday they had 4dead fish that i could find.
