Neon
Hi, This morning I noticed my Otto has something that looks like white fungus by one of his fins. How can I treat this? I have some Furan-2 - can that be used for fungus on Ottos?
Neon
Actually don't worry - it was dead by the time I got home anyway.... I might have been a bit ambitious trying to keep ottos - from searching the net they sound pretty hard to keep. Have other people found that? DutchKiwiCowboy2
Sorry to hear of your loss. I have just gotten my first otto's, From my research it's the acclimatization period that's the most crucial. High oxygen levels and lots of greens are important too. How long did you have him? They also prefer to be in groups.
Neon
Thanks DKC I had him for only one month. I bought 2 but the other one died soon after I got them. How do you tell if you have high oxygen levels? I assume since the other fish don't gasp at the surface that oxygen is okay. I didn't give extra food since the guy at the shop said his one ignored the extra food he gave it. Maybe I should have, but the otto didn't look too skinny. I'm going to try a GBA now but maybe I'll try ottos again in the future as they're such cool fish. Sarah
Afrikan
Ottos need very clean water and good water flow, sorry to hear that you lost your little guy... They aren't hard to keep if keep up on good water changes and good filtration.
