skaffen
Hiya I have a 440 L tank with an AquaEl Unimax Pro 500 for filtration, which has foam/wool, bio balls, dolomite, then ceramic noodles. What do you guys reckon about the media I'm using? The water's clean and almost clear, but there's some fine suspended particles - should I be able to get crystal clear water? I'm wondering if I need finer mechanical filtration media? I added some wool to the foam in the first basket, which seemed to help some... r Cheers -Si
cichlid7
as long as you can see from end to end and front to back that should be good enough
danilada
I have the same problem, I use a Fluval filter though, I do a 2-3 weekly waterchange and still have not been able to get rid of the fine particals (poop and plant)
danilada
as long as you can see from end to end and front to back that should be good enough Nothing nicer looking than a spotless tank Whatever that is
Ira
The best solution to small suspended particles in the water is to stop looking so close.
Dixon1990
hahaha, I have small particle in my tank at the moment and when i get close to the tank they are big :-? Probably caused by the airstone right under the filter
firenzenz
Get a UV filter and see what difference that makes. All you can see is fish and no water
skaffen
I've got the Unimax internal UV unit for the filter on the way :-) I should have added, I'm a n00b, so I don't know what's achievable here, maybe I am looking too close
DantezGirl
uv filters by the way what is the price range for them? do you need anything else to go with them?
skaffen
http://www.petplanet.co.nz/index.php?pr ... Clarifiers I've seen these in Animates for a bit more $$$ too The one I ordered is made by the manufacturer of my filter and it's designed to fit inside the cannister filter. The cool thing is it has a separate power supply so you don't have to run it all the time. -Si
David R
The little ones are ok for killing algae in the water, but won't do much to stop things like whitespot. Having "gin-clear" water is important if you want to take decent photos, you could try find some filter pads/socks that go down to 50 microns if you want to get rid of fine particles, or use a product that makes them stick together so the coarser filter wool can catch them. skaffen
Thanks for the info. I don't like the sounds of adding floc, but I might try some filter pads. I presume there's no free lunch and you have to clean them more frequently? I can see myself getting sick of that and learning to appreciate the natural organic look more It'll be interesting to see what the UV unit does... diggop
Hi skaffen, Mine is a bit milky looking that I do not like, thought it was the lighting, size of tank. lets know how the UV unit goes. I used to look very clear in a smaller tank. but not now in the deeper water.
